A TEADUST-GLAZED TORTOISE PAPERWEIGHT

QING DYNASTY, QIANLONG PERIOD (1735-1796)

LENGTH: 10CM

This unusual paperweight is potted in the shape of a hollowed tortoise and is covered throughout with an unctuous yellowish-green teadust glaze. The glaze thinning at the extremities reveal the light porcelain body underneath. The wellrendered tortoise has its head slightly peeking out whilst its arms and legs are tucked inside its shell. The base reveals two small holes for firing and eight tiny spur marks on its flat underside.
